Vintage Champagne Every few years, when the gods have been kind and the grape harvest produces superlative fruit, the Champagne houses declare a vintage year. This means that they will simply produce a Champagne made with grapes solely from that year. Now, these wines are not necessarily the best Champagnes (Prestige cuvees and reserve Champagnes could argue this), but are the Champagnes that perfectly represent the year in which they were harvested. These are of course normally very good as vintage years are only chosen 2-3 times a decade. Many of these wines are suitable for long term ageing.
