Verdicchio

This ancient variety originally came from the Marche region of central Italy but now features quite strongly in parts of north-eastern Italy and has forged a good reputation internationally. The best wines still come from the Verdicchio dei Castelli de Jesi DOC zone and those marked Classico should be better still (producer knowledge is as important as ever). These top wines are minerally, floral, fruity, sturdy and thoroughly refreshing – a lovely drop if you’ve never tried it.
