The USA has a number of very important wine regions that are capable of producing unique reds and whites of excellent quality that reflect both the individual terroir and the best principles of winemaking. The variety of wines is stunning, with California alone making almost every style of wine seen anywhere in the world – reds, whites, sweet dessert wines, late harvest Riesling, sparkling wine and even fortified Port-style wines.
Though there is considerable mass production and many new regions are still defining themselves, the quality end of American wine is very exciting indeed. On the whole, the US wine industry is one of the most dynamic in the world – from California’s world famous Cabernets, Zinfandels and Chardonnays to Oregon’s exciting Pinot Noir there is much to entice and excite wine lovers (keep an eye out for interesting wines coming out of New York’s North Fork and Finger Lakes as well).
Much of the best wine in the USA is drunk domestically and often in the State where the wine is made, so with the exception of California’s superstar wines, we see very little American wine on these shores. Things are changing though and with the loosening of their legislation perhaps we can expect more quality export wine from the US.
Unfortunately, the price of US wines is expensive and finding quality at a decent price is difficult. As a result, Wineaux only imports one wine from the US and it really is amazing - click below to find out more about JustNat, a true boutique superstar.
