Trebbiano AKA: Ugni Blanc
This is one of the most widely planted white grape varieties and the number one in Italy. It is often planted for its high yields and with a focus on quantity rather than quality though a few producers in Italy restrict the yields and get a decent wine in the process. A lot of this wine is made into cheap Brandy in France; ubiqituous and insipid would be the best way to describe the bulk of these wines. Primary fruit character: citrus Secondary fruit character: we're not sure that this grape develops desirable secondary flavours Spiritual home: Italy and France Home from home: Planted far and wide, examples to be found in many winemaking countries
