Sangiovese

Sangiovese produces some of Italy's most revered red wines. It is grown all over Tuscany and the south of Italy either as straight Sangiovese or as one of its many clones (e.g. Brunello). The variety is remarkably versatile and can create really juicy, easy-going table wines as well as the great wines of Brunello, Chianti Classico and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. It’s thin skin, high acidity and moderate tannins are well suited to quality conscious low yields (higher yields can result in a watery wine which is why many of the more affordable versions are blended).
