Nebbiolo Nebbiolo is the great wine of Barolo and Barbaresco and arguably the most important red grape of Italy. It is a fickle grape that is very difficult to get right; it does not travel well. Top quality, mature Barolo is among the best red wine in the world, dark and brooding in character, both rugged and seductive. The best examples invariably take time to appreciate - as one wine writer puts it ‘it takes time to dress violets, tar and truffles in silk’. Primary fruit character: prunes, cherries Secondary flavour character: roses, tar, violets, truffles, game Spiritual home: Barolo and Barbaresco, Italy Home from home: California, Australia
