Mourvedre AKA: Monastrell This is a robust, thick skinned, warm climate grape variety that is most at home on the vineyard shores of the Mediterranean. Often seen in Rhone blends, it is most widely planted in Spain as Monastrell and makes a wine that tastes of brambles. With age, good examples can develop a real animal, feral-like quality.
