Gruner Veltliner
This is Austria 's most widely planted grape variety and makes very enjoyable and classy whites with a steely, upfront character. It suits many types of food and is similar in some ways to Riesling (the very best examples certainly get close to the best Rieslings). Nothing tastes quite like it.

Secondary fruit character: pepper, sherbert, herbs, gherkins, dill
