Gewurtztraminer AKA: Traminer
This has to be the most fragrant, perfumed and aromatic of all the major grape varieties and often produces heavy white wines with an off-dry character. Allied to the range of flavours that Gewurtz has to offer, the resulting wines can be stunning. Primary fruit character: roses and lychees Secondary fruit character: Turkish delight, spice, ripe tropical fruit like mangoes, guava, passionfruit, ginger, cinnamon Spiritual home: Alsace (France), Germany Home from home: Alto Adige (Italy), California, New Zealand, Australia, Chile
