Top notch drop from the Terra Alta region of Catalonia, an area growing in stature that features world class Garnacha (a la Priorat) at a far more affordable price. Edetaria is one of the best producers in the area and this red blend perfectly shows power and elegance, perfectly balanced. The nose is full of red and black berry fruit, cassis and balsamic notes and is one of those utterly entrancing bouquets in wine - one you'd like to smell forever. The wine is medium to full bodied in the mouth and certainly more restrained than the nose would suggest and altogether far more desirable. Smooth, interesting and complex flavours mirror the nose and the wine finishes dry but round. This is probably due to the age of the wine which is currently (2010) drinking very well indeed.
Tasting
Purple-colored, it exhibits some balsamic flavors, rich aromas of spice, red currants,
cherry, cacao, tobacco leaf and mineral. Medium to full-bodied, it has excellent depth
of flavor, nicely integrated oak, tannin, and acidity, and enough structure to evolve
for several more years and conserve the freshness
Service
We recommend decanting the wine before being served at 16º-18ºC.
Never heard of Terra Alta? Well its an inland county of Catalonia that is slowly getting a reputation for producing some of Spain's most interesting and serious red wines. It has, of course been producing wines for generations and we are overjoyed to be representing their top, ground-breaking winery. These guys are leading the way in the new wave of Spanish wines from Catalonia. We're talking about maximising varietal expression, minimalist winemaking, stringent vineyard management, low yields and perfectionist winemakers... all the stuff we love to hear.
