Dolcetto Literally translated as the ‘little sweet one’, this is north-east Italy's answer to Beaujolais and, like the famous French wine this, is drunk plentifully and without ceremony. The best examples are Dolcetto D’Alba and though the wines can develop complex flavours they seldom wander too far from their primary fruit flavours. Primary fruit character: red plums and redcurrants Secondary flavour character: can develop some subtle hints of blackberries (primary characters may also develop further) Spiritual home: Piedmont, Italy Home from home: California
