Argentina is the world’s 5th largest wine producing country with 90% coming from the vast viticultural area centred around Mendoza. Though much is mass-produced, there are a number of high quality producers making excellent wines. The level of outside expertise, particularly from French winemakers, promises that this will continue.
The Mendoza area is is the focal point for Argentinian wine-making and is home to a range of of terriors. The regions of Tupungato and Lucan de Cuyo in particular enjoy a growing reputation for producing excellent wines. Some of the higher altitude vineyards on the slopes of the Andes are also commanding increasing attention. Argentina's warm climate produces rich, ripe reds, while the higher level, cooler vineyards are known for whites of depth and complexity.
